Live tank SF6 gas circuit breakers, whose rated voltage from 40.5kV to 550kV and rated current from 3150A to 5000A are provided with two kinds of operating mechanism, spring and hydraulic type. Motor is used in spring mechanism to charge closing spring and to charge opening spring during closing operation. Disk spring is used in hydraulic mechanism for charging instead of traditional compressed nitrogen gas, and hydraulic driving is used in both opening and closing operations. The two kinds of operating mechanism have their own eatures and are used respectively for different voltage class. Due to the unit structure of circuit breaker, it boasts of advantages of minimized number of breaks and components, simple structure, high reliability as well as long maintenance-free period.

Structure and Principle

For this SF6 circuit breaker, the single-unit structure is applied in the construction. There are advantages of minimized number of breaks and parts, and simply structure.

Both opening and closing operations of spring mechanism are driven by spring force. Before operation, closing spring is charged by motor in advance while opening spring is charged during closing operation. The controlling parts of second circuit and SF6 gas density are placed in the enclosure of the mechanism.

Main Features and Advantages

5.1 Superior interrupting capability

Single-unit structure is applied in the construction of circuit breaker with variable break distances, which is able to meet different switching requirements. The well designed arc-extinguishing chamber can withstand either severe rising rate of the recovery voltage by a short-line fault or peak recovery voltage by breaking out-of - phase current. In switching excited current, the overvoltage is less than twice of operating voltage. No restrike or reignition occurs during switching line-charging current.

5.2 Reliable insulation and current-carrying capability

Because of the isolation of SF6 gas from the atmosphere, the breaker has a reliable insulating capability.SF6 gas property does not change with age and at the same time it protects the insulating parts within the gas chamber. It also prevents the contacts from oxidization and other chemical reactions as SF6 gas is stable and inert in nature when it is used together with other materials.

5.3 High reliability

The series of circuit breakers passed all type tests at National High Voltage Apparatus Quality Monitor and Inspection Center. The mechanical endurance is 3000 times without adjustment and 10000 times with lubrication and adjustment allowed. They also passed the electrical endurance test, breaking 20 times at rated short-circuit breaking current (40kA/50kA/63kA) during type tests.

5.4 Minimized maintenance work

The circuit breaker is constructed by unit structures, resulting in minimized number of breaks and parts, thus greatly reduces the inspection and maintenance work. In addition, its operating mechanism boasts advanced technology and excellent performance, the circuit breaker hardly needs any repair.

5.5 Excellent earthquake withstand capability

The live tank SF6 gas circuit breaker is substantially resistant to seismic shock due to its simple construction and light weight
